SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Secretary's Report

January 2016

Minutes of Chapter 65 meeting executive board on January 20, 2016

Attending:  Jerry, Helen, Joe, Jane, Leslie, Frank, Dianne, Martha, and Roz

  1.  President Jerry provided copies of the Agenda:  Item 1 was a discussion of the Chapter 65 By Laws. He felt that there are way too many articles, and that they need to be simplified. A working group will be formed consisting of Roz, Helen and Jerry, and a meeting will be set up soon.
  2. Dues increase: procedure and implementation:  Martha reported on the survey taken and the consensus was that there should be an increase to $12/year.
  3. District meeting:  Several dates were proposed: April 18, 20, 25, or May 2nd or 4th. Since our chapter meeting is scheduled for April 20, Jerry suggested that we combine both the chapter and District meetings. However, there may be an issue of date. We can, hopefully, get Senator Feinstein's representative, Katie Gross, to agree to come on a different date. We'll try to arrange for box lunches. Jerry asked Martha to do another presentation on computer technology (as she did at the previous District meeting.) Jerry will ask Helen Zajac to present her "vision" for NARFE's future.
  4. Reno Convention (34th NARFE National Convention) Aug. 28-Sept 1, 2016. The $99.00 registration fee (per person) must be paid by August 1. On-site registration is $125.00. Jerry suggested that we do a $50 ad for the convention booklet. We can use the ad that Fran drew - with the bridge drawing. We should also do a "booster" list and Jerry asked Leslie if she could do this (begin collecting) at the next meeting. And at the luncheon in March.
  5.  Membership plan update needed. Juanita is going to work on this.  We're trying to have our meeting at 450 Golden Gate on August 17. Sara Russell, Executive Director of the Federal Executive Board is the contact person and she seemed to think that we could do this. Roz is working with spreadsheets on membership and plans to draft a letter and/or email to selected members. She requested a current list. Jerry will do an XL - spreadsheet and will send to Roz. Jerry distributed copies of the Membership Action Plan Outline.
  6. Program: There was discussion on June tour of the Tenderloin neighborhood. Helen is arranging this for June 15. It may have to be limited to 20 people. Helen has emailed an extensive explanation of the sites to be visited to the program committee. The Tenderloin Museum guides the tours. Roz has contacted the new director of the Federal Executive Board for the May 18 meeting.
  7. Treasurer's Report: Dianne reported that the per capita dues for 2015 is $533, and that the fundraiser netted $1,129. Current bank balance is $2151.37.
  8. Conference Room - For the April meeting, Leslie will be following up to determine what room/rooms will be available for us.
  9. Reports: Frank reported that for the year, the Chapter raised $156 for the Alzheimer's fund, $50 of that was donated by one member. The remainder came from collections he had at the various luncheons.

    Respectfully Submitted
  Jane Ramos, Secretary
