SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Secretary's Report

February 2011

Minutes of Chapter 65 Board Meeting on February 16, 2011
Present: Jerry Hall, Jane Ramos, DorisMarie Hagopian, Fran Chan, Frank Morelli, Martha Raup, Dianne Joseph, Don Enochson, Leslie Ching, Dave Garcia

March Luncheon: Fran has not received many reservations so far, but it is still early. Please send your reservations in by March 5. The offer of coupons by the Vista Room should go into the March newsletter.

Membership Plan: Herman presented a membership recruitment plan which was discussed and accepted. Some additional items were raised such as asking that our active federal liaison to NARFE, Rebecca Clark, be invited to attend board meetings when she is able. It was recommended that we continue to use the website to share reports and the newsletter. Jerry will work with Martha on sending reminders to those members whose email addresses we have. Herman may ask Helen Zajac if the 114 email addresses could be used.

CA Convention Update: Three chapter 65 members are attending: Jerry, Martha and Dianne. The Chapter pays the $15 registration fee. Additionally, the funds previously set aside for delegates will be divided among them. These funds will not, of course, come close to meeting their total out-of-pocket expenses. Treasurer, Dianne, gave Fran Chan a pre-payment check of $100 for the ½ - page ad which was submitted with the ad copy. Final draft copy was brought in for advance viewing. Delegates will bring an extra copy of the booklet for our archives. Sponsor list due by Feb. 28 and raffle tickets by March 15. Dee Shallenberger will be running for Ex. V.P. of the California Federation.

Program Schedule for 2011: Leslie provided copies of the programs for the rest of the year. Still to be firmed up are June through December. June, September and December are to be luncheons. Ideas are requested. Some possibilities are financial advisers, candidates for local offices, GGNRA representatives.

Endorsement requested by Helen Zajac: The Vallejo NARFE Chapter President requested that Chapter 65 endorse a plan to bring the Olympia (an 1892 cruiser used by Admiral Dewey in the Spanish American War) to San Francisco for refurbishing. This was discussed and the Board agreed it would be an interesting historical ship to be on display here. No funds are requested and it was agreed to endorse the project, particularly as the ship was built in S.F.

Reports from Executive Board Members: DorisMarie reported on all the contacts that she made during the month. She contacts members who have not paid dues and those that may be dropped. Frank (Alzheimer’s) reported that Laura Wilcox (CSFC Alzheimer’s Coordinator) had sent a letter showing that $30 had been contributed by the Chapter in 2010. Dianne reported the Jan 31 balance is $6,176.40. The annual bulk mail permit fee of $185 was paid to the Post Office. The IRS electronic form 990 (e-Postcard) was filed on-line. This is for reporting taxes for non-profit organizations earning under $25,000. Our insurance policy has expired and we cannot re-enroll until June. Jerry believes we have a national policy, but we need a system to keep track of this. Insurance is due to be paid before June. There should be a notice that we receive. We must watch for this. Martha has started a Google “places” page. She is considering starting a Facebook page, and mentioned that National NARFE has a Facebook page.

Meeting adjourned about 12 noon, and the General Meeting was held at 1 pm. Our speaker was from the Alzheimer’s Association.

Respectfully submitted:
Jane Ramos, Secretary
