President's Report

January 2014

PRESIDENT: JERRY HALL, 229 De Montfort Ave, SF, CA 94112, Ph: 415-412-0488
GREETINGS AND CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL CHAPTER MEMBERS WITH BIRTHDAYS AND/OR ANNIVERSARIES IN JANUARY… I want to thank the 45 members and guests who signed up to make our Christmas luncheon a big success. Members enjoyed an excellent three-course meal in the heart of the city. Elections for 2014 Chapter officers were also held and your current officers were returned to office by unanimous consent. The installation of officers will take place at our January 15th meeting.

While I thanked your officers at our luncheon for their service this past year, I wanted to again thank them formally in our newsletter. It takes a whole lot of dedicated volunteers to make our NARFE Chapter successful. Martha Raup serves as your 1ST V P, attending board meetings, conventions, and recruiting new members. Moreover, she ensures that we have an excellent website that contains important information for our chapter members and access to the national site. Additionally, the website contains all the newsletters since 2007. Chapter 65 is deeply grateful for all of Martha’s contributions. Herman Bracey, your 2ND V P has been a strong supporter and active participant in the Chapter for many years. He has filled in for me several times when I have other commitments. This newsletter happens every month because Herman puts it together, gets it to the printer, and provides them with all the information they need to send it to our members in a timely fashion. In case that isn’t enough, he is also our membership chair ensuring that our member roles are up to date, sending letters to new members and those that have not renewed their membership, and keeping our membership plan up to date. Jane Ramos, your very committed Secretary, keeps all the records for your organization. Takes minutes at our meetings, works on the program committee, and brings a very strong voice to the issues that NARFE supports or has concerns about. The final elected officer, Dianne Joseph, your Treasurer, keeps our Chapter financially solvent. She balances the books, writes the checks, and keeps meticulous records of all funds received and spent. I can safely say that your Chapter dues are in the good hands of Dianne. When she isn’t busy with the money, she acts as our other Webmaster, putting up documents and information that keeps our members informed. These are your officers. They work for you and have again accepted the Chapter’s call to remain in office for another year. I applaud them. I thank them. I appreciate them. Be sure to let them know that you appreciate their efforts as well.

Besides your officers, you have a number of other Chapter members who make our Chapter a success. Dave Garcia continues to provide Chapter members with information that affects their pensions and benefits. Frances Chan and Leslie Ching are very strong supporters of the Chapter and work on public relations, attend and assist with the executive board meetings and outreach to new members. Rolene Walker helps to keep the Chapter connected to your political representatives as your legislative chair. Jess Ramos conducts our yearly audit of the financial records and serves on the nominating committee. Juanita Lott and Helen Rogers contribute to the Chapter by assisting with the monthly programs your Chapter provides. Edi Higa contacts members who have experienced sickness or ill health when you advise her of their situations. Frank Morelli continues to remind us all of the need to support the Alzheimer’s research fund that continues to make progress in Alzheimer’s research. He ensures that all your contributions make it safely to the research fund. DorisMarie Hagopian contacts via phone every member who forgets to renew their membership and reminds them why NARFE is an important organization for them. Finally, your Chapter believes that for NARFE to be a viable and successful organization, we must recognize and support the current active federal employees. Rebecca Clark serves as our active federal employee Liaison. She is ready, willing, and able to help active employees with their questions about NARFE and benefits issues that our active employees might have. It takes a large team of volunteers to make your Chapter a success. These volunteers believe in the mission of NARFE and serve the Chapter’s membership with dedication and commitment. Thanks to all of our members who contribute to the Chapter, even if only by regularly renewing their membership, purchasing a life membership, or going on dues withholding. The Chapter is successful because of all your efforts and your attendance at the events we sponsor. I personally wish to thank all of you who support our Chapter in so many ways.  It makes being your president a rewarding experience.
