SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Alzheimer's Report

June 2008

Have you ever thought of participating in the Memory Walk, the Alzheimer's Association's most important annual fundraising event? It's been an annual event for the last 15 years. This year's Memory Walk will be on Treasure Island in San Francisco Bay, on Saturday, October 11, starting at 9:30 AM. This is not a competitive track meet; it's an event to bring together people who feel strongly that we must as a society bring an end to Alzheimer's disease. Similar Memory Walks are held throughout the country bringing tens of thousands of people (the Bay Area Memory Walk drew 7,000 participants last year) together, creating a national movement committed to finding a cure. If you think you'd like to be a part of this national effort but don't have a way to get to Treasure Island, there will be shuttle buses, starting at 7 AM, and departing every 15 minutes at the Embarcadero and Market street, that will take you to Treasure Island and bring you back for free. What a deal and it's for such a worthy cause. Call me at 415-826-3333 if you want more information.

The Chapter wishes to publicly thank and acknowledge the generous contribution to the Alzheimer's Association from Chapter 65 member Mary Brant. Her gift will enable the Alzheimer's Association to continue reaching out to individuals and families coping with the challenges of caring for someone with Alzheimer's, as well as supporting research efforts to find a cure. As I mention in every newsletter, if you wish to make a donation to support programs and services to individuals and families coping with Alzheimer's disease as well as supporting research efforts to find a cure, please make your donation check payable to "Alzheimer's Association". On the other hand, if you wish your donation to be used solely to support research into finding a cure, please make your check payable to "NARFE-Alzheimer's Research". To ensure that your contribution is correctly acknowledged as coming from a NARFE Chapter 65 member, write "NARFE - Chapter 65" in the memo section of your check. Mail your contributions to me at 875 Sanchez St., San Francisco, CA 94114; I'll then forward you donations to the Alzheimer's Association.      Jesus Ramos
