SAN FRANCISCO, CA

Alzheimer's Report

April 2008

A Rally Against Proposed Cuts in State Funding for Senior Services is scheduled for April 16. The Alzheimer's Association is asking that persons concerned about the proposed cuts in adult care services, research and caregiver services in next year's state budget join them and other organizations for a protest rally on the steps of the State capitol, north side, L Street, on April 16th, from 12 to 2 PM. As many of you know, one in eight Americans over 65 suffer from Alzheimer's or another type of dementia. In California alone, 450,000 persons fall in that category. The Alzheimer's Association is in the forefront of efforts to maintain an adequate level of support services for persons and families coping with this illness. They need your support to carry on this vital work. Hope you can make it to the rally. For more information on the rally, you can call the Alzheimer's Association's Northern California offices on the peninsula: 650-962-8111.

As I mention every month, the Alzheimer's Association needs our financial support to continue the fight against Alzheimer's disease. If you want your donation used to help families coping with this dreaded disease, as well as to support research efforts to find a cure, please make your check payable to "Alzheimer's Association". On the other hand, if you want your donation used solely to support research into finding a cure, then make your check out to NARFE-Alzheimer's Research". To insure that your contribution is correctly acknowledged as coming from a NARFE Chapter 65 member, write "NARFE-Chapter 65" in the memo section of your check. Mail your contributions to me at  875 Sanchez St., San Francisco, CA 94114; I'll then forward you donations to the Alzheimer's Association.      Jesus Ramos
